About Us

Alberta's Seed Industry Partnership

Established in 1991, the Seed Industry Partnership has been a joint effort of the Association of Alberta Co-op Seed Cleaning Plants and the Alberta Seed Growers' Association. These groups have been working together to educate producers on seed issues facing Alberta.

Association of Alberta Co-op Seed Cleaning Plants

When the association was formed over half a century ago, its directors had a goal to establish seed cleaning plants across the province. Today, the association has 71 member plants which process 31.5 million bushels annually and one grain terminal auxiliary member. Not only do the plants clean pedigreed and common seed to the highest standards but the plants provide value-added processing products for specialty marketing including everything from pony oats to peanuts. Our Vision - To be Leaders in the Advancement of a Viable Seed Processing Industry.

The association plays a vital role in coordinating services for the seed plants and makes an important contribution to crop improvement through the prevention and control of weeds, improving the quality of seed and promoting up-to-date methods of applying seed treatment chemicals for control of diseases and insects.

Alberta Seed Growers' Association

The Alberta Branch is one of seven branches of the Canadian Seed Growers' Association (CSGA). Each branch has its own board that works at a provincial level but also has representation at the national level to represent the opinions of the provincial membership.

Through third-party inspections and audits of seed growers, and processors across the country, the CSGA certifies some of the highest quality seed in the world using a Quality Assurance Identity Preserved system that is world-renowned.

The CSGA is the sole seed pedigree agency for most agricultural crops in Canada. Canada's seed system is recognized and respected around the globe because it ensures mechanical purity, while providing an audit trail that guarantees varietal identity and purity.

Alberta's seed growers work hard to maintain the standards and methods of producing clean, true-to-type, high-quality seed.
