Alberta Crop is 49 Per cent in the Ground

by | May 24, 2022 | Crop Production, Seeding

With variable precipitation falling across the province over the week, seeding is now at 49 per cent done in Alberta, said the May 10 provincial crop report. This is up from 20 per cent from the previous week.

Regionally, seeding progress is ahead of the five-year average for the south and central regions but below average in the north east, north west and Peace regions. Many ares received less than one millimetre of rain, especially in the south region which is in desperate need of moisture, the report noted.

“Rain in the forecast this week will help to moderate dry conditions. However, timely precipitation will still be needed in the coming weeks to sustain plant growth,” the report said.
