Alberta Harvest Ahead of Average at 61 Per Cent Done

by | Sep 17, 2021 | Crop Production, Weather

Harvest in Alberta is ahead of the five and 10-year averages, the Sept. 14 provincial crop report says. Sixty-one per cent of the provincial crop is in the bin, which is up from the five-year average of 28 per cent and 10-year of 32 per cent.

Favourable harvest conditions continued over the past week, helping producers harvest their crops at a steady rate,” the report says.

No widespread frost has yet been reported, but there have been small pockets in low-lying areas. Hailstorms were reported in some parts of the central region, the report notes. Crop damage has yet to be determined.

Precipitation over the week helped to improve soil moisture reserves by two per cent, the report says.
