The $2 million Building with BioFibre program will encourage usage of forest and agricultural biomass in green construction to support economic development of the bioindustrial sector, a Nov. 5 news release from Alberta Innovates.
“Diversifying our economy with innovation like the Building with BioFibre program will create opportunity for a sustainable building industry,” Doug Schweitzer, Alberta minister of jobs, economy and innovation, says in the release.
The program ran by Alberta Innovates will allow for funding of up to $250,000 per project. The Building with BioFibre program is looking for novel ways to use hardwood, agriculture residual fibre and crop resources to advance sustainable and technological innovation, build capacity and enhance value-added capabilities in these industries, the release notes.
The release says the program is for technology developers, industry, industrial associations, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), research and development (R&D) organizations, post-secondary institutions, municipalities, not-for-profit organizations, government research labs and individuals.
