BASF has received Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) approval for their Vercoras seed treatment for InVigor hybrid canola, the company says in a new release on July 15.
Vercoras provides broad-spectrum protection against seed and soil-borne diseases such as blackleg during the early season infection period, as well as baseline protection against flea beetles, the release notes. It will be available for purchase for the 2022 growing season.
“As our first seed treatment for InVigor canola, the launch of Vercoras signals an exciting step forward for both BASF and canola grower,” Chris Hewitt, marketing lead – seed treatments and inoculants for BASF Canada Agricultural Solutions, says in the news release.
Vercoras includes the insecticide active ingredient Clothianidin and four fungicide active ingredients — Fluopyram, Metalaxyl, Fluxapyroxad and Pyraclostrobin. It also provides protection against Fusarium, Rhizoctonia and Pythium, the release says.
“Growers across Western Canada continue to face unprecedented challenges when it comes to growing canola and ensuring a successful harvest,” Justine Cornelsen, agronomy specialist with the Canola Council of Canada, says in the release. “Blackleg and flea beetles not only cause significant challenges and frustration for growers, but they also have the potential to negatively impact the long-term success of Canada’s canola industry.”
