Panakeia, a THC-free and high-CBG hemp variety, was recently added by Health Canada to its List of Approved Cultivars (LOAC) for 2021. The variety, technical name HURV19PAN, is the first THC-free and the first CBG variety approved by Health Canada, as well as the only CBG variety currently available in the country. It’s distributed in Canada by Cannabis Orchards, a biotechnology company based in Ottawa.

Panakeia was developed by the Spanish University UPV along with Hemp Trading and is now owned by Biomax, belonging to the same business group.

Cannabis Orchards is the first company to produce certified feminized industrial hemp seeds in Canada. Certified feminized seed for HURV19PAN will be available to industrial hemp and cannabis license holders this month. Consumers can anticipate CBG products to hit the shelves in Q4 of 2021, the company says.

Research shows CBG may have beneficial effects in reducing pain, glaucoma and psoriasis. It might also have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
