From Our Desk: Innovations that Move the Needle

Mother Nature isn’t pulling any punches, insects continue to attack, diseases are evolving and countless other threats are bearing down on crops. As farmers fight to protect yields, the seed industry is aligned to help these producers from around the globe rise to meet the challenge of providing food and fiber to a growing world.

From digital technologies, to seed treatments, to genetics, innovations in the seed industry are limitless. Keeping up with innovation, however, is challenging. To learn more about innovations that are or will make a difference, Seed World Group is taking a closer look at individuals and companies tackling agriculture’s biggest challenges in this season of Seed Speaks.

This series marks our third season of Seed Speaks. Every week you’ll find hosts Alex Martin, editor of Seed World; Ashley Robinson, editor of Alberta Seed Guide; Marc Zienkiewicz, editor of Germination; and me, at 12:00 CDT on Seed World’s Facebook page and Seed World Group’s YouTube channel. Our goal is to engage with people across the industry to get questions answered, curiosity piqued and information exchanged.

You’ll hear from not only Seed World’s Top 10 Innovations of 2021, but other movers-and-shakers of the industry. Speakers range from college students to multi-national corporations; the only criteria are they must be doing something new and impactful for the industry.

For those of you who might not be familiar with Seed Speaks, each half-hour episode features experts from across the world who will provide insights into different kinds of innovations, their potential, availability and use in seed.
