Seeding Progress at 85 Per cent

by | May 26, 2023 | Crop Production

The wildfires continue to burn in areas of crop land having some impact on seeding progress. With only minor seeding disruptions due to major rains, according to the May 23 crop report, 85 per cent of major crops have been seeded. Last week 55 per cent of Alberta’s crop had been planted according to the previous crop report.

Seeding progress is now ahead of the five and 10-year averages even with the evacuations, road closures and wildfire activity potentially impacting seeding progress. Seeding is currently five per cent over the five-year average and three per cent over the 10-year average.

All regions expect planting to be done for all major crops within the next two weeks.

Additionally, all regions reported rapid emergence of major crops. The provincial average is 47 per cent.
