Alberta Crop Harvest Almost Done

by | Oct 13, 2023 | Crop Production

Harvest in Alberta is nearing the finish line with 94 per cent of crops in the bin, the Oct. 10 provincial crop report said. This is 13 per cent ahead of the five-year average and up six per cent from last week. Dry and warm conditions all week helped harvest progress.

The north west area has the most left to combine at 86 per cent done. The central, north east and Peace regions are all within eight per cent of being, with the south virtually complete, the report said.

While dry conditions helped harvest progress over the week, soil moisture conditions are lacking the needed precipitation to support fall seeded crops, the report noted. The majority of the southern half of the province received no showers over the last week while the north west and north east areas received up to five mm.
