Favourable weather conditions across Alberta has allowed the provincial harvest to be three to four weeks ahead of schedule at 99 per cent done, the Oct. 12 provincial crop report says. This is ahead of the five-year average of 71 per cent.

Harvest is practically complete in the south, central and north east regions, the report notes. It is 98 per cent done in the north west region and 95 per cent in the Peace region. Compared to historical averages, harvest progress is well ahead for all regions.

Temperatures have started to cool down provincially, with frosts happening overnight, the report notes. Subsurface moisture levels are depleted across the province.

The report also notes that this is the last one of the 2021 growing season.
