Cereals Canada welcomes the SaskBarley Development Commission (SaskBarley) and AgroHall into its membership according to a release.
“As the voice of the cereals value chain, Cereals Canada is pleased to welcome new industry and grower representation to our membership,” said CEO Dean Dias. “We are committed to working collaboratively with our members to advance our advocacy efforts, market access issues, and to grow and maintain markets for Canadian wheat, durum, barley and oats.”
SasksBarley was established in 2013 and works to increase productions and quality of barley for producers and consumers alike. A board of directors from across Saskatchewan that are elected by producers lead the organization.
“We welcome this opportunity to strengthen our working relationship with Cereals Canada,” said SaskBarley chair Keith Reuve. “With their valued leadership on cross-sector cereals issues like trade policy and government relations, we will be even further equipped to address the issues that matter to Saskatchewan’s barley producers.”
“Cereals Canada also works in partnership with Canadian Malting Barley Technical Centre (CMBTC) to collaboratively address the needs of the barley sector,” said Dias.
AgroHall is based out of Montreal as “an independent cereals trading company”. The company specializes in originating, marketing and exporting cereals, including spring wheat and durum.
“As a supplier of Canadian wheat to west and central Africa for 40 years, AgroHall is excited to join Cereals Canada as a member,” said Robert Frame, trader and head of commercial activity with AgroHall. “Promoting Canadian cereals is incredibly important for AgroHall and our West African milling partners, and Cereals Canada membership allows us to work directly with industry stakeholders to strengthen the bonds between local and African markets.”
“By combining technical, market and governance support, Cereals Canada is an excellent organization for supporting an ever-evolving grain market,” continued Frame.
The Cereals Canada board chair, Jennifer Marchand, welcomed SaskBarley and AgroHall to the organization’s membership at the annual meeting.
“On behalf of the board of directors executive, I want to welcome our new members and express our appreciation to the board and the Cereals Canada staff for all their hard work over the past year,” said Marchand.
Todd Hames with Alberta Wheat Commission received recognition at the meeting as well. Hames was thanked by Marchand for his dedication and leadership within both the organization and the industry overall. Hames role will be filled by Jason Lenz, vice-chair at Alberta Wheat Commission.
Marchand closed the annual meeting with a call to action and addressed Cereals Canada board and members.
“As we look to the next 50 years, we need to stay united, leverage our expertise, advocate for policies that support the growth and sustainability of the grain industry, and foster strong partnerships, both here and abroad for the success of our industry,” finished Marchand.
