The 2022 Alberta’s Crop Protection Guide, otherwise known as the Blue Book, is now available for advance ordering, a Jan. 18 news release says. Starting Jan. 18 Alberta farmers, agronomists and agriculture retailers can pre-order a copy to be shipped starting in March.

“The Blue Book is a quick reference tool that continues to be valued by Alberta’s farmers. It contains important information that farmers need throughout the year,” Robert Semeniuk, Alberta Pulse Growers chair, says in the release.

Enhancements to this year’s Blue Book include a revised sprayer operations section and a new section on pesticide resistance. The release notes the pre-order system was first launched last year and was responsible for over 60 per cent of sales for the 2021 guide.

The Blue Book is a collaborative effect from the four crop commissions — Alberta Barley, Alberta Canola, Alberta Pulse Growers and the Alberta Wheat Commission. This marks the second year of the commissions collaborating to produce the book, the release says. Production is done by the Alberta Wheat and Barley Commissions’ in-house publication GrainsWest magazine.
