Syngenta has released a new fungicide, Miravis Star, for Sclerotinia protection and application flexibility in canola, a July 10 news release said.

The two ingredients in Mavis Star are Adepidyn, a Group 7 fungicide with powerful, long-lasting, systemic protection, and Fludioxonil, a Group 12 fungicide that’s one of the top-performing active ingredients against Sclerotinia, and offers effective, contact-based activity. The release noted by combining these ingredients it helps growers reduce their resistance risk.

“We know – above all else – yield performance is the key driver when deciding whether or not to apply a Sclerotinia fungicide,” Jon Cressman, product lead for fungicides and insecticides with Syngenta Canada, said in the release. “Miravis Star is designed for canola growers who aren’t satisfied with the status quo, want to embrace new solutions, and push their crop’s performance.”

It provides significant yield increases compared to untreated acres. In a series of small plot trials, Miravis Star demonstrated a 23.7 per cent yield advantage over untreated at the standard rate of 0.4 litres per acre, the release said. Against competitor Sclerotinia fungicides, it provided an average 1.4 bushels per acre advantage.

Miravis Star also offers greater flexibility, with an application window of 10 to 50 per cent flowering.

The release noted that further field scale trials of Miravis Star are being conducted on farms across Western Canada throughout the 2023 growing season. It will be commercially available for the 2024 growing season.
